Shakespeare Aggregates Receives Safety Awards

Demonstrating a strong commitment to employee safety and health, Shakespeare Aggregates was recognized with Rock Solid Safety Awards at the Illinois Association of Aggregate Producers (IAAP) annual convention on April 10th in Springfield. The company’s Keyesport Sand & Gravel, Madison County Sand, Shawnee Sand & Gravel, and Shawnee Stone – Jonesboro Quarry mining operations achieved Gold awards while the Brenda Kay Sand, Brush Creek Quarry, and Shawnee Stone – Cypress Quarry received Rock Solid Excellence in Safety awards, the highest honor.

During the award ceremony, Michael Jackley, representing the U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration said, “IAAP member mining company owners, their safety directors and miners make safety a priority.”

The IAAP Rock Solid Safety Award program was developed to publicly recognize members producing crushed stone, sand, or gravel, as well as companies providing services to the industry. A company and its employees must meet specific health and safety criteria to qualify for the Bronze, Silver, Gold or Rock Solid Excellence in Safety designation. Calendar year 2013 is the twelfth year for this award program.

“By rewarding our industry’s health and safety leaders, this program encourages other IAAP members to adopt more proactive safety practices and systems designed to prevent job related injuries or illnesses,” said Shawn McKinney, Outreach Manager for the IAAP.
The Illinois Association of Aggregate Producers is the trade association serving the stone, sand, gravel and non-coal industrial mineral mining industry in Illinois.
